Music Video Research: mise-en-scene research

This entire video uses one setting for the entire song with no narrative, purely performance.
Although a few different shots are used, it is always Ed Sheeran being led down the river backwards on a river boat, therefore the viewers can see where he is going but he can't.

The focus is mainly always on Edd with the background slightly unfocused making it clear he is the one the viewer should be looking at.

The slight narrative is at the end showing two people hugging which is refereed to in the lyrics however it is shot from the boat therefore very quick.

However this small reference to narrative reinforces the meaning behind the song therefore making it quite striking.
