Representative Research Project: Joe Brooks

One of my chosen videos for my representation research is Joe Brooks - Superman.

The reason I have chosen this video is because has a very similar style to Ed Sheeran:
  • Solo singer
  • Acoustic guitar player
  • Non-main stream (not obsessed with publicity)
The video is focused on just one female throughout alongside Joe Brooks. Her position within the music video is very important.
This can be seen through this shot:
Although Joe Brooks is the main character within the video, a focus pull is placed on the female highlighting her importance.

With order of significance, the female is place on the right hand side which is the last thing the eye would see as we read from left to right. However by placing her angled towards the camera with her full face in view, and with Joe's back in the frame, the audience is drawn more to the female than Joe.

Within this shot, the female is featured alone however it tracks down to Joe shortly afterwards. The light is also brighter, making the shot less significant than ones featured alongside with Joe. Her face is also hidden with her hair which it isn't when Joe is in the frame. This can show that without Joe her significance isn't as valued.

From this analysis, I have observed that the female assists Joe Brooks alongside with the narrative. Screen time is still dominated with Joe either on his own or alongside the female.
